If you had the power to save your friend’s life, what would you do to change their fortune?
Writers have the power to change lives with the use of words. A simple message like “It’s over” can break a person’s heart. Words like “I love you” can bring sunshine and everlasting warmth. Writing compliments and praises can raise another person and elevate their value.
One spider knew the influence of words.
If you’ve read Charlotte’s Web, you’ll know on one level, it’s a children’s story, talking about the cycle of life.
On another level, it’s a story about growing up and losing magic when a child can no longer understand animal speak.
What is truly amazing is one spider’s ability to use words to save the life of a friend. What would you do to change another person’s fortune?
“It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer.” – E.B. White

Words are incredibly powerful and how we use them is so important. Charlotte’s Web is a great example as well as most fairytales as they’re children’s stories but also cautionary tales.

Good point! Fairytales are cautionary tales.

Put it on your reading list, Devang! (It’s good even though the book is for kids.)

This is probably a good time to mention the only guide to writing anyone needs. Strunk and White, The Elements of Style. Charlotte’s Web gets mentioned on here (WordPress) a lot. E .B.’s guide to writing, not enough. Check it out. It’s about the power of words too.

Sometimes the right (or write) word or gesture can really change a person’s outlook. When I was in graduate school talking to a friend (undergraduate) that was feeling lowly because of her looks, I made a comment looking at the sorority girl in the house across the street, “She is nothing without her blow dryer.” That off handed comment really cheered my friend up.

Yes. One time I was feeling a bit overwhelmed when I got onto an elevator and a complete stranger smiled and said hello just to be nice and that was a warm moment!
