Time moved a lot more slowly when I was a child. When I was a child, everything seemed much bigger. Heroes were bigger. Problems were bigger. Twenty-year-olds were old.
As an adult, I returned to my elementary school. The halls were smaller. The desks were smaller. Those years in school lasted just a few blinks of an eye. Now a month is the same as thirty seconds and a decade is just ten months. Where does the time go?
If there were some scientific invention I could get my hands on, it would be a device to slow down time. It seems that the older we get, the faster time moves.
Like the ghost of a dear friend dead
Is Time long past.
A tone which is now forever fled,
A hope which is now forever past,
A love so sweet it could not last,
Was Time long past.
There were sweet dreams in the night
Of Time long past:
And, was it sadness or delight,
Each day a shadow onward cast
Which made us wish it yet might last–
That Time long past.
There is regret, almost remorse,
For Time long past.
‘Tis like a child’s belovèd corse
A father watches, till at last
Beauty is like remembrance, cast
From Time long past.
Percy Bysshe Shelley

Love Percy’s poem!

Time is relative. I liked Shelley’s poem

I agree, and science (psychology) has also proven, that time seems to move faster for adults than for children. However, as Einstein said, time is relative, so, slow or fast will depend on the perspective. Loved the poem!

Thanks! I like the poem too. I also think time is relative. Two people can be sitting together. One person is bored – time moves slowly. The other person is having fun – time moves quickly.

I think it’s because things stretch out a bit more when they’re new experiences. Think how long the run up to that first kiss was! But once we’ve learned our way around a bit we tend to race through things. We even skip noticing and remembering many of the things that were once important but now feel more familiar. Hence time speeds up.

This is very true. For example, the first day of my new job. I noticed a lot of details on the way to work because everything was new. Eventually, the commute to work became a blur because it was routine.
