I would say that AI (artificial intelligence) is technology that I would be better off without – but it’s a necessary part of life. AI is here to stay.
It helps us to complete tasks much faster and more efficiently. Yes, AI will replace tasks and possibly jobs. This week, a friend was asked at her job to use AI to speed up her workflow. She will be able to finish her tasks at three times the speed if she asks AI to do the work for her. Is there an ethics question there somewhere? Probably. Are we encouraging AI to replace certain jobs? Maybe. But do we have a choice? If my friend makes a stand and says, “No AI for me!” she could be job hunting tomorrow.
Out of curiosity, I asked AI to write a paragraph about the benefits of AI, and it replied, “Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a necessary part of life in the modern world due to its transformative potential across various sectors. AI-powered systems enhance efficiency and productivity by automating tasks, analyzing vast amounts of data, and providing valuable insights in fields like healthcare, finance, and transportation. From personalized medicine and medical diagnosis to fraud detection and risk management, AI improves decision-making and problem-solving. Additionally, AI enhances user experiences through virtual assistants, recommendation systems, and customized content, making technology more intuitive and accessible. As AI continues to evolve, its ability to address complex challenges and drive innovation makes it an indispensable tool for progress and improvement in various aspects of life.”
This paragraph was generated in one second. I can’t type that fast, let alone think that fast. In the future, our skills won’t be about how well we think creatively but how well we are able to use AI to do our work.
It is clear that even if some of us push as hard as we can against the progress of AI, others will pull equally as hard to advance AI so we can incorporate it more into our daily lives and our jobs. In the future, AI will be as commonplace as mobile phones. Those who can use AI will reap the most benefit. What do you think?
In part 2, I share more about the impact of AI on writing jobs.

AI is a tool, and we should use it like that. AI generates answers within seconds, but at last, it’s artificial intelligence and lacks humane feelings, and emotions like empathy, intuition, cultural sensitivity, trust, genuine connection, etc. AI as a helping hand to humans can do wonders, but I’m doubtful about it as our replacement.

I don’t think it’s a replacement. The biggest benefit is that it helps us to do boring tasks faster.

AI will complement the way we work. It won’t replace human activity. I can recall during the late 1990’s and early 2000’s the biggest thing to shock the internet was Napster. The discussion back then was musicians would need to work for free and there would be mass layoffs of people working in music stores. Fast forward 20+ years on, we have musicians like Taylor Swift breaking all time records deals and alike and when we walk into any type of department store there are still shelves with CD’s and even vinyl records, which seem to have made a come back. During the late 2000’s and early 2010’s when the GFC hit Bitcoin and Blockchain was all the rage. There was discussion that it would replace financial institutions, banks, the way we handle cash and money etc, but yet we still need banks to get a loan, withdraw cash, perform deposits etc.
Here we are today discussing the next hottest thing off the press AI. Even in my line of work I’m still yet to see how AI can fully replace me as a qualified IT engineer. AI can’t make decisions on how to resolve priority one issues, I do; AI can’t inform my escalations to look at my issues if I need to get assistance, I do; AI can’t quantify customer and technical impacts when an issue arises in my systems, I do. I think it’s fair to say in the foreseeable future AI won’t replace everyone regardless of industry.
However one thing is for certain, with AI upon us change is definitely coming. Just not the change we’re all expecting.

Thanks for all the insights! I think change from AI is inevitable. Those who work in the tech industry will definitely see AI changing the way we work, without replacing jobs in the tech industry (because we are the ones innovating new ways of using AI). Thanks for commenting!

My uncle and I just had a conversation revolving this and the essential parts of the terminator movie. We ultimately came to the conclusion that CHAT GPT and thoes kinds of AI models are only as dangerous as we let them be. The idea being that so long as we don’t give the AI sensitive information such as nuclear codes or live server access to government level drones we should be just fine. That being said, the next morning i woke up to a news story in which one of the developers of Open AI started advocating for restriction on AI use due to their recent use of a drone that was being controlled by an AI. ALL OF THA BEING SAID, there are valid concerns that the restrictions that Open AI is advocating for is actually monopolization practices to make it harder for competitors to break thought the market like they did.

It will be interesting to see how AI evolves. I agree. We have to be careful what we give it. At the moment, it is still learning. Terminator is definitely a possibility of what could go wrong.

I think good or bad, AI is reshaping our world faster than we can even wrap our heads around it. I just heard a senior tech professional at a leading AI company candidly project that her current role could be obsolete within three years, and not just her’s though – work as we know it. Personally, I think the real superpower will be staying curious and flexible while these digital winds of change blow through…and finding enjoyment in being mediocre at things we love (she said the last part).

Great read! Seeing your perspective of Ai is was very interesting as the information and evidence to back up claims in the work. In my opinion I believe AI does have both good and bad takeaways depending on the situation. For example, AI can help resolve many questions that a person can have by a matter of seconds, as the speed of the technology provides great benefits in results of an answer. For it being bad, it can honestly depend on the person who’s using it. Sometimes their intentions can result to cyber attacks with the guidance of AI technology. No matter what way AI is being used, the strong and powerful effects it has within today’s society will change the overall course with how we view technology in our day in age.

With AI, Look I personally see both sides on one hand it can speed up working on something such as a creative project. However there are copyright issues that need to be ironed out. In regards to generative AI. Ethical use as opposed to training on other peoples work without compensation or permission. Also one observation as well is that a lot of hardware companies both in the OEM (copilot+) and DIY PC Space (intel core ultra + nvidia as a whole) are pushing AI hard as well. Especially with the release of Windows 11 and copilot. In conclusion I as well am very interested to see whether this will end up a fad or become even more prevalent in our lives. I am leaning towards the second option.

Interesting! Thanks for the share. There are options to turn off AI from using content for their training, especially with paid subscriptions.

One should ask AI to explore the negatives of AI. I cannot ask the questions as we are not on speaking terms.

AI is defiantly good. I mean if you want you can easily live in a place of fear and look at things like oh nooo jobs or oh noo what if they take over. Well one with jobs, it would get more people to one do what they truly want to do rather than just get a check and two it can easlily help answer questions and build externally. Now I do feel like if the human race becomes depended on AI it will completly crash. We wouldn`t know what is real and what is fake. We would lose touch of the one thing that is actually 100% real in this world which is emotion. But I mean hey who knows time will tell if AI brings Heaven or Hell.

It’s neither bad nor good, but that’s what makes it dangerous. Intelligence does not correlate positively or negatively with compassion or empathy.

AI is good and helpful. Once I saw one of senior deputy general manager try to make a comparative analysis of bank rates of two.
I asked him what he trying to and in what format he wants the report.
I used Perplexity to compare the two years bank rates and generate a report.
It took me 10 minutes.
We should not steal someone work buy try to generate our own story using our brain or AI.

In your example, AI is one way to help us do our jobs faster! Ten minutes is better than the time it would have taken you to do the same task without AI!

AI maybe helpful to our everyday tasks but I know it is too risky to fully utilize and rely on it that may affect our data privacy.

I am glad to hear most of us expressing skepticism, even if AI itself presents itself in glowing terms. It shocks me that anyone suggests allowing AI to make decisions…I mean, seriously? It cannot think – it can only find and reproduce patterns. In a small, automated, completed closed environment, I suppose AI could quickly decide YES or NO based on recognizing patterns, but I would hesitate to (and do avoid) reading the AI answers to things. It’s just a regurgitation of other answers written by others. The only difference is that AI gives its sources no credit, and has no sense of their moral or logical validity.

I asked AI a question and it gave me a bunch of suggestions and when I asked it if the list was original, it gave me instructions on how to check for authenticity. I was better off creating the suggestions myself.

AI is whatever whoever programs and creates it, and how we choose to use it…..I’ve actually asked Chat GPT about AI becoming self aware…nope, the MATRIX, or Terminator in out future..I keep thinking though, what if AI ran the world instead of just politians?…would there be any algorithm that would have told Putin, yeah sure invade Ukraine?….who knows, maybe R2D2 may save us afterall?

I think AI is one of those things that can be really good or really bad depending on how we handle it at this moment. If we get to a point where we give it too much power it’s going to cause so many problems but if we regulate it well it can be really great.

Enjoyed the AI generated praise of AI. I’m not fond of it being the first generated Google query response, but at least it is upfront about that. Many times you have to guess whether it’s AI generated or not.
